Checking A Remote Host

Use ping and traceroute

Use the ping command to check any given host to see if it is up and running, connected to the Internet and responding to networking requests.

Use the traceroute command to check the route from your computer to a given host.

Use a terminal window for the commands. On Windows systems traceroute is tracert。
